The highlight of the day is a visit to the Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple, UNESCO World Heritage Sites that offer an insight into the daily beliefs and lifestyles of the people of Lhasa.
After breakfast, your first stop will be the Potala Palace, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of Lhasa’s Old Town. Delve into the palace’s history and admire its extraordinary artifacts to discover the stories and legends surrounding the Dalai Lamas. Among the most significant treasures of the Potala Palace are the meditation cave of Tibet’s 33rd great monarch and the gold-plated burial stupas of past Dalai Lamas.
Following your visit to the palace, you will head to Longwangtan Park, situated at the base of the Potala Palace. Here, you can engage in traditional Tibetan activities and appreciate a different perspective of the majestic Potala Palace.
In the afternoon, you will continue your exploration at Jokhang Temple, the heart of Tibetan Buddhism, which houses the revered twelve-year-old statue of Buddha Sakyamuni. Outside, you will witness pilgrims kneeling in reverence before the temple. Surrounding the temple is Barkhor Street, where you can wander through the historic market and join pilgrims and locals in kora, a spiritual circumambulation around a sacred site.
Next, your guide will lead you to one of Lhasa’s most popular indoor Tibetan tea houses. There, you can savor a cup of traditional sweet Tibetan tea while your guide shares insights about daily life and the social fabric of Tibet.
Overnight in Lhasa
The journey from Lhasa to Shigatse begins in the morning and includes stops at the glacier, the most beautiful lake in Tibet, and a quaint Tibetan village.
To experience Yamdrok-tso (4400m), you’ll first need to navigate through the Gampala Pass (4790 m). From this vantage point, the stunning Holy Mount Nyenchen Khangsar (7191m), the tallest peak near Lhasa, can be seen majestically in the distance, surrounded by numerous snow-covered mountains framing Yamdrok Lake.
After taking in various perspectives of the lakefront, you can visit a local family’s home in the nearby village to enjoy a meal with them. Next, you’ll drive along the route and admire the breathtaking Korola Glacier, the largest glacier in Tibet. Witness the awe-inspiring sights as the glacier’s ice tongue rises dramatically up the mountainside. Continuing your journey, you’ll head towards Gyantse, pausing at Simila Mountain Pass to hang prayer flags, offering prayers for world peace and the well-being of your family. Upon arriving in Gyantse, you can spend some time capturing photos of this historic city. As you travel from Gyantse to Shigatse, you’ll pass countless farms and fields of Tibetan barley, lush and green in summer and golden in autumn.
Finally, you will arrive in Shigatse, Tibet’s second-largest city. Once you’ve settled into your accommodation, you can unwind and prepare for your upcoming adventure to Mount Everest the next day.

Dolshang, the initial segment of Gama Valley, features delightful streams set against a backdrop of stunning snow-capped mountains, all of which contribute to the growth of magnificent, colorful orchid blossoms. As you descend into the valley, the vibrant orchids capture your attention immediately. The spectacular waterfalls, lush meadows, and towering snow-covered peaks create a scene that feels almost otherworldly.

Trek Day 4, trekking a distance of 11 kilometers
We make our way down to the Badang, where the Ega prairie lies, by navigating through the winding paths. On your right, glaciers and a vast canyon start to take shape as we go lower. The water flowing there is the origin of Gama Valley. To arrive at Paltang, our final camping destination for the day, we need to carefully maneuver through large, jagged rocks. This will allow you to rest well for the night and save your energy for the challenging trek ahead tomorrow.
Camping
Trek Day 5, trekking a distance of 18 kilometers
Today’s hike is going to be quite challenging. We’ll begin by making our way to the base camp on the eastern slope of Everest. The initial part of our journey involves a strenuous climb over large boulders with an incline of 45 degrees. As we ascend, we’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the stunning glaciers on the eastern face of Mt. Everest, as well as the lesser-known Mt. Chomo Lonzo (7804 m). After completing this trek, we’ll head back to Paltang. If you prefer a more leisurely experience, you can simply enjoy the beautiful scenery around the Paltang campsite instead of venturing to the Eastern Slope of Mount Everest Base Camp.
