Breakfast /Welcome Dinner
Visit Potala Palace and Johkang Temple
Let’s explore the treasures of Lhasa, starting with the Potala Palace, a former residence of the Dalai Lama and recognized as the highest palace globally. Both the Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street, central to Tibetan spirituality, have been designated as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. The Potala Palace, a former political and religious center of Tibet, rises magnificently over the red hills of Lhasa. As you climb the 365 steps to the main structure, you can discover the prayer rooms, the tomb stupa, and the Dalai Lama’s old political hall. Here, you’ll find stunning murals and exquisite Buddha statues that showcase the splendor and treasures of ancient Tibet.
The Jokhang Temple, revered as the holiest site in Tibet, attracts lifelong pilgrims primarily due to the 12-year-old statue of Shakyamuni. Feel free to walk along Barkor Street alongside the pilgrims and soak up the vibrant atmosphere of the city. To deepen your understanding of the local culture, your guide will also accompany you to a nearby Tibetan teahouse.
Breakfast
Yamdrotso Lake, Karola Glacier
Traveling to Shigatse will take approximately 7 to 8 hours by car, covering a distance of 340 kilometers. Along the way, you’ll encounter two breathtaking natural landmarks: Yamdrok Lake and the Karola Glacier. Experience an awe-inspiring 20-kilometer stretch as you trace the retreating shoreline of the lake. We will pause at a lakeside village, where you can wander through the local farmers’ homes, explore the surroundings, and savor a delightful farmhouse meal. After lunch, we’ll drive for about an hour to witness the spectacular Karola Glacier, one of Tibet’s most impressive glaciers. Its massive ice tongue extends right up to the roadside, resembling a frozen waterfall that looms above you. Following our visit to the Karola Glacier, we will continue past Lake Manla and the historic town of Gyantse, eventually arriving in Shigatse, the second-largest city in Tibet.
Breakfast/Farm house Lunch
Gyawula Viewing Point, Everest Base Camp
We will embark on our 330-kilometer (6.5-hour) journey to Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world, following breakfast. Along the way, you will make several stops to catch glimpses of Everest. Your adventure will culminate with an overnight stay at Everest Base Camp (EBC). As we depart from Shigatse, you’ll be surrounded by picturesque rural villages and beautiful countryside. After about four hours of travel, you’ll reach Dingri County, where the Dingri Viewpoint offers your first sight of Mount Everest.
As you approach the stunning region of Everest, Gawula Pass will reward you with breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayan range. The towering peaks of the Himalayas, standing between 7,000 and 8,000 meters, rise majestically above a sea of clouds, creating a stunning visual experience. At Dingri viewpoint, you’ll be captivated by the grandeur of Everest.
Continuing along the designated route leading to Everest, the peak will grow closer and more impressive until you arrive at the base camp on its northern face. From this vantage point, Everest appears as a colossal pyramid. We will aim to reach Everest Base Camp before sunset, allowing you to witness the spectacular sight of the sun setting over the mountain, casting golden hues across its surface.
Please note that during the winter months, when the tented lodges at Everest Base Camp are unavailable, we will relocate to Basong settlement, the nearest village to Everest.
Breakfast
Peikutso Lake, Mt.Shishapangma, Kyirong Vally
If the weather is favorable, you can witness the breathtaking sunrise over Mount Everest or take a leisurely walk around Everest Base Camp to savor the stunning early morning hours. After breakfast, your guide will lead you to the world’s highest temple, Rongbuk Monastery—famous as the site where the tsunami scenes were filmed for the movie “2012.” It’s also an excellent spot for capturing photos of Everest’s cultural and natural beauty. We will then head to the Tibetan border town of Gyirong, leaving Everest behind. Along the way, you will pass close to Shishapangma, another peak soaring over 8,000 meters in the Himalayas, as well as the spectacular Peiku Tso Lake nestled at its base. The journey will take us through Kongtang La Pass, which stands at 5,200 meters above sea level.
In the morning, your Tibetan guide will drive you to Gyirong Port. It’s time to bid farewell and capture a photo beneath the impressive Chinese border gate. As you cross the Sino-Nepal Friendship Bridge that spans the canyon, our Nepali staff will be there to welcome you at the border. If you opt for our private car service to Kathmandu (an additional $60 per person), we will assist you with your luggage (tips are appreciated), guide you to the car, and ensure you’re comfortably seated until you’re dropped off near your pre-booked hotel in Kathmandu.
During your journey, you will continue to enjoy stunning views of the southern Himalayan canyons and snow-capped peaks until you reach the Kathmandu Valley. Please note that the shared jeep ride, costing $60 per person directly to your accommodation in Kathmandu, is not included in the package. If this option isn’t required, travelers can take a public bus from the border to the nearest bus station in Kathmandu and arrange a taxi to their hotel on their own.
