Welcome to Tibet! When you arrive at the airport, our welcoming guide and driver will meet you and present you with a traditional Tibetan white scarf called a “Khata.” Your driver will then take you to a comfortable hotel in central Lhasa, which is just an hour away via the expressway (70 kilometers). After checking into the hotel, take a moment to relax and acclimate to the altitude of 3,650 meters, ensuring a great start to your journey on the plateau.

Visit Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery Debating
Today, you will explore two unique monasteries in Lhasa: Drepung and Sera, each offering a different insight into Tibetan Buddhism. The tour will include visits to Buddhist halls, educational colleges, and the monks’ kitchen, where you can witness their distinctive debate practices help them grasp Buddhist teachings. Sera Monastery is particularly renowned for its lively Buddhist debates, which embody the essence of Tibetan Buddhism. Monks engage in animated discussions, using expressive body language that resembles dance as they delve into Buddhist doctrines and showcase their comprehension in an energetic way. In the evening, your guide will lead the group to a traditional Tibetan restaurant for a welcome dinner, marking the beginning of your journey through Tibet.

Visit Potala Palace and Johkang Temple
Today, we will explore the wonders of Lhasa, including the Potala Palace, the former residence of the Dalai Lama and the highest palace in the world. The Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites, serve as the spiritual center of Tibetan faith. The Potala Palace stands proudly over the crimson hills at the heart of Lhasa and was once the center of Tibet’s religious and political life. As you climb the 365 steps to the main structure, you will encounter the Dalai Lama’s former political hall, various prayer halls, and the tomb stupa. Here, you will marvel at exquisite murals and magnificent Buddha sculptures that showcase the richness and treasures of ancient Tibet.
The Jokhang Temple, which is home to the 12-year-old statue of Shakyamuni, is considered Tibet’s holiest site and a lifelong pilgrimage destination for its people. You can join the pilgrims on Barkhor Street to truly experience the essence of the city. Additionally, your guide will take you to a local Tibetan teahouse to offer insights into the region’s social culture.

LuRiLa View Point, Rituo Monastery, Gangpala Viewpoint
Today is a relaxing day entirely devoted to you, surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of Yamdrok Lake in every direction. Along with taking in the lake’s beauty from various viewpoints, you can interact with the cattle and lambs that wander along the shore. We’ve arranged a lakeside lunch for you, allowing you to savor the tranquility and warmth of the sun. You’ll also have the opportunity to visit Rituo Monastery, famously known as the world’s loneliest monastery, situated on a secluded island within Yamdrok Lake. With just one or two monks practicing in solitude, Rituo Monastery offers a unique vantage point showcasing stunning views of the vibrant lake. Lastly, we’ll head to Gangbala Viewpoint to admire the sweeping vistas of Yamdrok Lake before returning to Lhasa.
